It all started with an image in my head. I envisioned a coin falling through the air into a glass full of whiskey. Then more fell, over and over again, filling the glass until it starts to overflow. I knew I had to have a version of that as the primary visual representation for this play, but I wasn’t sure how to achieve it. I knew it wouldn’t be possible to make it happen on my own. I needed help.
I approached a few artists and photographers with my idea, but unfortunately, they were not able to fully interpret what I had envisioned. I had almost lost hope in that image, thinking I may have to compromise, until I found Faith… quite literally.
The moment I presented my ideas to Faith, I knew it was the right fit. They sketched the image first, and even though it was just a rough version drawn in twenty minutes, I finally saw the image that resided in my head come to life. Suddenly, it felt real, not just a figment of my imagination. It was something that everyone could experience. The entire process went rapidly. After just a week, we had a finished product.
We worked together, texting and sending voice messages back and forth, making small revisions and additions to improve the image. It quickly surpassed anything I could have ever imagined. Within a few days it went from a rough sketch, to a detailed drawing, to a colorized version, and after a few revisions, a finished product. I have never worked with someone so determined to not only turn my thoughts into reality, but also to improve upon that initial image, putting pieces of themself, and their passion, into the work. Looking at the picture now makes me emotional, because I know how much effort, time, and detail was put into it.
Faith learned a new art style in just two days, and spent many hours perfecting our poster. What I find almost unbelievable is the fact that she is only 17 years old. They are so unbelievably talented, and I will forever be grateful that she was willing to work hard to make this visual for us. It is the perfect representation for our show, and I am proud to use it to represent THE INHERITANCE GAME. It may have all started with an image in my head, but Faith has turned that vision into a reality for everyone to see.
About the Artist
Hi I’m Faith, I’m 17 years old, and a self-taught traditional and digital artist living with Tourette’s. I have been drawing all my life as a way for me to cope with my disability. Jenny asked me about my process, but I don’t really have much of one, other than drawing what I think will suit my taste.
If it is a piece for a client, I keep a close contact, and try to get as close as possible to what they envision. I am an artist because I love to create. I also want to show that I am not defined by my disability, and to inspire others with disabilities to follow their dreams as well. This is an incredible project and I am proud to have been able to create the poster for THE INHERITANCE GAME.
